Control Structure 7 (CS-7) Drainage Structure Improvements

FBT provided the structural design of the sheet pile wall, concrete coping, and other structural items associated with this large drainage structure rehabilitation for Orange County Roads and Drainage Division.

FBT provided the structural design of the sheet pile wall, concrete coping, and other structural items associated with this large drainage structure rehabilitation for Orange County Roads and Drainage Division.  The existing drainage structure included an old amil gate that was no longer functioning properly, so it was replaced with a sheet pile weir.

The design considerations included noise and vibration minimization techniques considering the close proximity of residential structures. The weir was designed with maintenance needs in mind.  The concrete coping included a walk bridge over the weir crest with a movable gate to allow adjustment of the base flow.  The sheet pile was designed to account for long-term corrosion (with some section loss) due to the environment. Also included was a ladder to reach the front of the weir for the removal of floating debris.

FBT designed the sheet pile and the concrete coping, coordinated with the County and the prime consultant regarding scour countermeasures, and provided inspection services during construction.  The construction cost for the project was over $2,000,000.
